We were glad to support the Wilton Car Club on their recent Scenic Tour in support of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance. This is an annual event that sees the WCC invite fellow enthusiasts to join them on a tour though some glorious countryside, just as summer turns to autumn.
This year saw participants arrive on a Sunday morning at the startline at the WCC HQ and nerve centre, The Swan at Wilton, where the Landlord had turned out early to open the pub, and generously provide free coffee to the assembling crew.
The Tour set off on the first leg heading out down the Bourne Valley, winding through the villages and countryside before turning South for a blast down the A30 towards Stockbridge. The Romans knew how to build a road!
Once through Stockbridge it was back into the lanes for a picturesque drive down the Test Valley, crossing and recrossing the Test before running down to a coffee stop at The Bear and Ragged Staff, a delightful gastropub at Michelmersh. Here the chefs had been busy baking no less than 5 cakes for the tourists to enjoy with their coffee.
Then the Tour set off in a loop through the area surrounding the villages of West Dean and West Tytherley back round to The Lion at Clanville, the final destination and lunch venue for the tour.
In all the participants donated £545 to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance through the Just Giving page, a measure of just how important the motoring fraternity understand this vital service to be. It is no surprise that those amongst us that venture out onto the race track were especially generous . . .
