For anyone thinking about classic British GT cars from the past 20 years the Jaguar XKR will loom large. The impact of a 4.2 litre Supercharged car was huge when it was launched, but now these machines can make a great deal of sense. Not only are they surprisingly rare, but they still deliver a huge amount of performance, and if bought carefully are a wise purchase.

Let’s face it, 400bhp is 400bhp, and twenty years ago the combination of big V8 and supercharger worked. Achieving the same in a modern car is complicated by electronics and engineering compromise caused by the onerous spectre of emission control. With that 400bhp and 553Nm of torque these cars were timed at 5.4 seconds to 60mph, and a limited top speed of just over 155mph (the ‘S’ version of this car was not limited and topped out at 174mph!)

That’s not to say that these cars lack any of the features you’d expect from what was, in 2005, an expensive top of the range vehicle.
A well looked after XKR will be reliable and huge fun, and you’ll need to be a bit of a hero to get anywhere near the limit of its capabilities on modern roads.
This car has a good history to match the low mileage, and good previous owner profiles; 5 owners, all Company Directors and one part of the ownership team at a garage in East Sussex.

First sold in July 2006 by Grange in Welwyn Garden City to the Director of an engineering firm, the car moves to Cambridge and Northampton before making its way to the South Coast around 2014, then at around 40K miles and with a full main dealer history.
